What will I learn?
The obvious answer would be that we study the Songahm style of Traditional Taekwondo. More on Taekwondo later... but perhaps the more correct answer is that you will be studying the physical and mental potential you possess within yourself. Many come for the rigorous workouts and enhanced flexibility. Many come for the various aspects of Martial Arts; traditional skills and techniques, sparring, weapons training, self defense or competition. Your path is your own and your interests and focus will likely change as you develop. Know that we are here to help you explore your abilities and pursue your potential, wherever that may take you.

What is Traditional Taekwondo?
'Martial Arts' is certainly a vague term when describing the multitude of styles and disciplines that exist. Even within the Martial arts community, the term 'Taekwondo' doesn't exactly clarify a great deal more. Loosely translated, Taekwondo means "The way of hand and foot". At a basic level, it is a versatile system of blocking techniques, strikes and powerful kicks. We train in Songahm Taekwondo, a Traditional Taekwondo discipline created by ATA founder, Eternal Grand Master H. U. Lee. The Songahm style incorporates a system of development where you can set goals, develop and master your technique and employ the values that are inherent within the art; discipline, control, focus, balance, speed and power.

Who will be teaching me?
Chief Master Hoover is an 8th Degree Black with 40 years experience in Martial Arts. He is a practicing Martial Artist and a hands-on instructor. He personally trains every instructor on his staff through an intensive 3 year program. Our Instructors are nationally certified in Martial Arts, class management and positive, effective teaching methods.
There are currently 15 Certified Instructors and 13 Instructor Trainees teaching and/or training at Hoovers Martial Arts Academy.

How physically fit do I need to be?
If you are able to do your best, then you are ready! If you're thinking to yourself that you would like to be in better shape, then you've just described every student and instructor at Hoovers Martial Arts. Let's face it, this is challenging work we're doing here. It never stops being challenging. I guarantee that you possess more ability than you realize.
